Secar® 60 is one of the newer cements in the Kerneos™ product line. Introduced in 1994 as a second mid-range cement, it has become well known in the refractory industry for medium duty and high technology castable systems.
Secar® 60 cement is produced in Chesapeake, VA and is currently only available in the North American market. Another cement of the same name is made by Kerneos™ in Brazil but is not of the same type. Buff to light tan in color, it is the lightest of our non-white calcium aluminate cements. The clinker for this cement is prepared by solid state reaction under mineralogical control. The sintered clinker is then ground to 4,000cm 2/g Blaine surface area.
Secar® 60 cement is a hydraulic binder with an alumina content of approximately 57%. Composed mainly of calcium aluminate phases, Secar® 60 is ideally suited for refractory, or fireplace applications. The primary mineralogical phase is calcium aluminate (CaAl2O4) which imparts excellent mechanical strength to mortars and concretes. With less than 1.5% iron oxide and a PCE rating of cone 16 (1,454° C), Secar® 60 is well adapted to refractory applications including reducing environments. Secar® 60 is recommended for use in products requiring rapid hardening, resistance to abrasion, mechanical shock, intermediate temperature exposure or where other high performance properties are required of cement.
Secar® 60 is available packaged in 94-lb. bags, 3,000-lb. SuperSacks, p-d (pressure differential) bulk trucks and p-d bulk rail cars.
